Come to see author Joseph Kakwinokanasum MONDAY, JUNE 5TH12:00pm to 1:00pmNEC SPIRITROOM Meet Joseph Kakwinokanasum Joseph Kakwinokanasum is a member of the James Smith Cree Nation. In the early 2000’s he started writing as a catharsis—a routine of selfcare and mental wellness. In 2014, he was awarded the Canada Council for the Arts: Creation Grant for Aboriginal Peoples Writers and Storytellers. My Indian Summer is Joseph’s first novel. Healing yourself is connected with healing others Indigenous Healing/Sharing Circle The healing circle/talk is an element of Indigenous spirituality that is closely linked to the natural world, where land and community have the highest possible meaning and are places to honour and commune with spirits dedicated to helping one another. Trying group of healing circle/talk may help you develop empathy, improve your health, sharpen your social skills, and even find a new community where you feel at home. Sharing is caring, and it is supported by others who share a holistic perspective. Get active Healing doesn’t mean the damage never existed. It means the damage no longer control our lives. NEC’s approach to counselling is holistic, considering the mind, heart, body, and spiritual aspects of well-being.
