Post-secondary education scholarships

For Indigenous Peoples

We are happy to announce that NEC will be awarding entrance scholarships for our Fall 2024 program intake. This year we are also accepting scholarships for diploma programs.

If awarded, all your school-related costs, such as tuition, fees, books & supplies, and a student bus pass (Upass) will be covered. Living expenses while attending will be the student’s responsibility. If living allowance support is required, NEC’s Student and Financial Aid Advisors will recommend internal and external bursaries and grants. The Literacy Coordinator will also be providing bursary writing workshops to assist in obtaining that support.

If you have been admitted into a certificate program and have been denied funding by your Nation, or other funding agency, this might be an opportunity to get the funding you need to start your certificate program.

First time applicants only. If you have taken certificate programs at another institution you will not be eligible for this entry scholarships.

We encourage you to apply for scholarships before the last day of student orientation, which this year is September 6, 2024.

The application requirements are as follows:

  • 1. Funding denial letter

A copy of a funding denial letter from your Nation or other funding agency you have applied to and any relevant communication from the funding organizations.  Your nation may provide living expenses if they know you have program costs covered

  • 2. Essay

An essay describing your financial need and how this scholarship could help you in reaching your career goals, as well as specifying the program in which you are interested. The essay must be at least three paragraphs long, single-spaced, and no more than one page long.
