The NEC Community Learning Centre (CLC) is a place for NEC applicants, prospective students, and members of the community to come and access learning support, workshops, community events, and help with fundamental skills for success at school. The CLC features drop-in and scheduled mentoring opportunities, workshops, events, computers, and space for the community to access educational materials and activities without needing to enroll in an academic program.
Many people feel anxiety about beginning their studies at post-secondary. The CLC is here to support people by offering workshops and mentoring on important studying skills and other topics, like procrastination, time management, and more. If you’re considering coming to NEC, visiting the CLC can be a good way to learn about some of the programs we offer and access some of the materials taught in our classes.
The CLC hosts AccuPrep, a workshop to help you prepare for ACCUPLACER, as well as copies of the ACCUPLACER practice tests to help you do your best when you come in for your ACCUPLACER placement test. See our calendar of events below for the next AccuPrep Workshop or schedule a one-on-one appointment using the link below to learn more about how to practice for ACCUPPLACER.
The NEC Community Learning Centre will host events throughout the semester to help people learn new studying skills, stress management, computer literacy, and career building skills. We also have weekly board game afternoons, crafting sessions, and other events throughout the year to promote indigenous learning and our community.
While our main focus is helping applicants and incoming students, we are happy to support current students with their learning needs as well when help from the Tutors and the Knowledge Centre is unavailable. Likewise, our workshops and events are open to all members of the community, including students.
Need help studying or want to get feedback on your latest resume. At the CLC, you can meet with our Community Learning Centre Coordinator, a specialist in learning in memory, to improve your learning skills across a broad range of topics. While we do have drop-in hours throughout the week, it may be helpful to schedule an appointment with the CLC to ensure that you get the help you need, when you need it. Use the link below to book an appointment or swing by and set up an appointment in person.
